
Johan Van Gompel
Johan Van Gompel obtained a Master's degree in Applied Economics at UFSIA (University of Antwerp), supplemented with a Master's in Monetary and International Economics at UCL (Louvain-la-Neuve). In 1995, he completed his doctorate at the University of Antwerp on the role of wage formation and exchange rate regimes for the macroeconomic performance of countries. Johan continued his career as a macroeconomist in the research department of the then Kredietbank. He was head of Economic Research at KBC Asset Management for 10 years and has been a senior economist in the research department of KBC Group since 2009.
Johan has always combined his role as a KBC economist with an academic career. Until 2018, he was a part-time professor at KU Leuven campus Brussels (formerly EHSAL). Since 2013, he has been working as a guest professor at the Antwerp Management School (AMS), where he teaches in the Executive Master in Real Estate Management. In 2020, he started as a part-time lecturer at the University of Antwerp for the courses Economic Policy (2021-2024) and International Environment (to the present). In 2018, he also joined the Royal Military Academy (KMS), where he taught Introduction to Economics (2018-2019) and has been responsible for the course Economic Policy since 2025. Johan published more than 50 articles on various macroeconomic topics in books and scientific journals.
From 2017 to 2024, Johan was chairman of the Study Committee on Aging and vice-chairman of the High Council of Finance. He was a Fellow of the Hogenheuvel College of the Faculty of
