Peter Michiels

Peter Michiels graduated from K.U.Leuven with a Bachelor of Business, following an earlier degree from the University of Antwerp as a Licentiate in Germanic Philology. After serving in the military as a reserve officer, he began his career at the then Flemish Economic Federation (VEV, now VOKA) and quickly advanced into a technical-commercial role for large international companies. Shortly afterwards, he was asked by the British chemicals group ICI to take over the leadership of their European HR shared service centre in Everberg, followed by a rapid international HR career at companies such as Huntsman Chemicals and Danaher.

From 2017, together with Chris Peeters, he led the transformation of Elia from a local grid operator into an international holding company. In 2018, Peter was named Trends HR Manager of the Year.

He has also held various board positions within and outside the Elia Group, including at the German grid operator 50Hertz and at start-ups. He is currently working with the Alcopa holding company to help shape its growth and further evolution.
